ENUGU—The presentation of a second candidate as monarch-elect for the vacant traditional stool of Ogonogoeji Ndiagu Akpugo Autonomous Community in the Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State has created confusion in the on-going process to replace deceased Igwe Gabriel Nnaji, who died last year.

The leadership of the community’s town union, however, reacted to the development at the weekend, maintaining that the first candidate, Chief John Nwafor, who was presented to Nkanu West Local Government authority on July 25, was the duly nominated Igwe-elect for the community.

The controversy started when recently some members of the community who were received at the council headquarters at Agbani by the Vice Chairman, Mr. Onyekachi Onwe, presented one Chief Emmanuel Nwobodo to the local authority as the Igwe-elect.

But in a swift reaction, the town union executive, in a letter made available to newsmen in Enugu, alleged plans by some people in the community to deceive the people of O’Eji Ndiagu as well as the entire public.
