Believe in the unity of Nigeria, Okorocha urges Nigerians

BY CHIDI NKWOPARA, OWERRI.
Imo State Governor, Chief Rochas Okorocha, has called on the citizenry to resist the attempts by certain political leaders to use religion and other ethnic considerations to divide them and achieve their personal goals.

Okorocha made the passionate appeal in his message as the country celebrates her 54th Independence anniversary.

“I urge Nigerians to continue to believe in the unity of the country and resist the attempts by certain political leaders to use religion and other ethnic considerations to divide them, to achieve their own personal goals”, Okorocha said.

It was the considered opinion of the Governor that at 54, the emphasis should have been on the things that would unite us as a people and as a nation, and not on those things that would rather polarize the country along religious and ethnic lines.

He expressed regret that at 54, the issue of religion is still eating deep into the fabric of the nation’s oneness, while the area one comes from has continued to take a toll on the country’s politics.

The Governor reminded the political class that posterity would judge them if they continue to fan the embers of religious and ethnic differences for their selfish gains.
