Bama: Curfew on Maiduguri now 7pm to 6am

Amidst reports that Boko Haram insurgents have over-run Bama, the second largest town in Borno State, the Defence headquarters yesterday said the curfew imposed on Maiduguri on Monday by the 7 division of the Nigerian Army has now been reviewed from 7pm to 6 am.

The Defence headquarters, however refused to comment on the reports that the terrorists have taken over Bama after another set of the insurgents were said to have re-grouped and launched a counter-attack to take over the military barracks in the city.

According to tweets posted on the Defence HQ website, the new hours of the curfew were aimed at preventing Boko Haram who suffered heavy casualties from getting into Maiduguri.

Another tweet sought to deny insinuations that scores of wounded soldiers in the battle that has been raging since the early hours of Monday, were being denied medicare, noting that there are very ‘alert arrangements on ground to take care of wounded soldiers’.

A further tweet from DHQ said claims that the Nigerian Air force was not providing adequate air cover for the soldiers on ground were incorrect as they were actively engaged in the operation to repel and dislodge the terrorists.

Some of the tweets read, “CURFEW in Maiduguri is from 7PM-6AM. Aimed at preventing infiltration into Maiduguri Metropolis by insurgents who suffered Heavy casualties”

“Such action is simply impracticable considering the very alert arrangements in ground to receive any one wounded in battle #WoundedSoldiers”

No wounded Soldier has been turned back from any Military medical facility in Maimalari Barracks or anywhere as rumour”
