Anambra PDP faction wants EXCO dissolved

By Enyim Enyim

ONITSHA—Following the botched reconciliation of factions of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Anambra State by former national chairman of the party, Senator Ahmadu Ali, aggrieved members have continued to petition the office of the national chairman.

As a result of the party’s prolonged crisis which resulted in the emergence of three factions laying claim to the state chairmanship of the party, the national leadership set up a reconciliation committee to investigate the remote and immediate causes of the crisis with a view to resolving it before the 2015 general election.

The Ali-led committee, which was in Anambra State last week Thursday, summoned the stakeholders and leaders of the three factions led by Chief Emma Nwaeze, Ken Emeakayi, Oguebego respectively at the Emmaus House, Awka which ended in a fracas following a free for all by members of the factions.

As a result of the development, aggrieved stakeholders in the state petitioned the national leadership of the party and the reconciliation committee.

One of the petitions by the Vice Chairman, Central, Sir Amechi Onuowu specifically called on the national chairman of the PDP to dissolve the Emeakayi-led executive, which he belongs to, on October 24 when its tenure would expire.

According to him, “Our tenure is due to come to an end next month and the national working committee should organise a fresh congress to elect a new executive or appoint a caretaker committee that will handle the state executive. Please sir, do not accept an extension of tenure for any reason. In fact, any action taken by our executive after October 24, 2014 is illegal and might be challenged in the law court.

“Our Emeakayi led executive was inaugurated on October 25, 2010 having been duly elected on October 24, 2010 following the resignation of our former state chairman, Chief Emma Nwaeze.”
