WARRI—The leadership of Proper Inheritance Political Associates, PIPA, a group within the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has dismissed claims that some aspirants have been anointed by the PDP leadership and the powers that be, as the sole candidates of the party for the 2015 general elections.
PIPA described such claims as mere rumours intended to mislead the grassroots PDP members, insisting that no PDP leader has the power to unilaterally anoint any aspirant as the candidate of the party without due process.
“We wish to state that the party has not done its primaries, where candidates will be nominated. The process is ongoing and is yet to be completed.
“It is our firm belief that as we in PIPA have been supporting some aspirants, we believe that other groups have the right to endorse any candidate of their choice. We assure members of PDP that PIPA will make sure that no candidate is imposed on us,” the group said.
PIPA Chairman, Mr. Eugene Eyube in the statement, said “PIPA is a strong pressure group within the PDP, committed to the tenet of the party, believing in due internal democratic process.”
