We’ll achieve 90% digital transition before June 2015 —NBC

The Nigeria Broadcasting Commission, NBC has said that it is working towards  achieving 90 per cent of digital transition across the country before the June 17, 2015 International Telecommunications Union, ITU deadline, for countries to switch-over to digital broadcasting.

This is also as the commission, said, that Nigeria needed about N67 billion to achieve full transition from analogue to digital broadcasting on deadline.

According to the Commission, the estimated cost will be spent on buyback subsidy by broadcast stations, Costs from TV publicity among other cost required to achieve the ITU deadline.

Director General of the Commission, Mr. Emeka Mba revealed these at the 22ndanniversary of the Commission in Abuja.

Mba said plans have been concluded to commence a nationwide rollout by January 2015 with a target of covering 90 per cent existing television households before the deadline. “Our dateline is January
