PORT HARCOURT – Three persons were feared dead and properties worth millions of naira destroyed in an inferno that consumed a make shift settlement in Oroakpor community- Mgbuosimini, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.
Neighbourhood sources told the Vanguard that the fire started from a lit candle in one of the apartments at about 2 a.m yesterday.
A lady and two other little girls were reportedly consumed by the inferno.
Vanguard gathered that the late arrival of fire fighters made the it to escalate.”If fire fighters had come early, the situation would have been put under control. They came very late,” the source said.
Some residents said their valuables were consumed. “Nobody came out with anything. All I have now is a pair of trousers and a shirt I am wearing,” a resident, simply called Mr Philip said.
