Amaechi’s tour: APC, PDP trade blames over shooting incident

By Jimitota Onoyume
PORT HARCOURTALL Progressive Congress, APC, in Rivers State, has enjoined the Police to be dispassionate in the discharge of their responsibilities.

Lamenting the shooting on Wednesday at Rumuipirikom, Obio Akpor Local Government Area ahead of the planned visit of Governor Rotimi Amaechi on the said day, state Chairman of the party, Dr. Davies Ikanya, said the Police needed to rise above partiality and sentiments.

Meanwhile, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has blamed the governor for the crisis that erupted Wednesday in Rumuipirikom.

Ikanya who said the Police did selective arrest after the crisis in the area, accused PDP of fomenting trouble, adding that they had often tried to disrupt the ongoing Meet the People Tour of Governor Amaechi.

He said: “The governor was to visit his own local government area, Ikwerre. PDP blocked the governor from passing Isiokpo. Last Monday, they tried to stop him from entering Rumuomasi. No arrest was made in all these areas and it culminated in Wednesday’s incident at Rumuipirikom.”
