APC-PDP
By Salisu Maradun
Gusau — Worried by the spate of defections from the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Zamfara State, the Bakura Local Government Council, yesterday, set up a committee to get the root of the matter and recommend ways of moving the APC forward.
Speaking in an interview with Vanguard in Bakura, Chairman of the local government, Alhaji Bello Dankande Gamji, said it had become imperative for them to intervene in the current unhealthy political situation before it got out of hand.
According to him, the council and an aide to Governor Abubakar Yari, Babangida Turnuku, got to know that those leaving the party in the state were decieved into decamping from the party due to their own selfish reasons.
He explained that the committee had succeeded in bringing back a number of those who defected, including some directors-general who recently left APC for PDP.
He said: ”All we are after is nothing but victory, nothing more, nothing less. Of course, we must be worried with what is happening in the state now politically. These people had been with us since the advent of democracy in this country in 1999, but some bad elements among us are trying to cause them to leave us.
”The people of this country have for long been in a bad economic condition, and by God’s grace, the APC will correct all the wrong doings of the present leadership of the ruling PDP.
In their own reactions, three former Directors-General who suddenly made a U-turn from the PDP to their former party, APC, confirmed that they switched from APC to PDP, and moved back again to APC. .
