Quadri in action at Glasgow
After successfully masterminding the return of Table Tennis to its pre-eminent position in Nigeria, President of the Nigeria Table Tennis Federation, Wahid Enitan Oshodi has said that it is not yet uhuru for Nigeria that took Africa by storm in the past.
At the on-going XX Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, Nigerian players have stroked themselves into reckoning with ageless Segun Toriola, Bode Abiodun, Jide Ogidiolu, Ojo Onalapo and Quadri Aruna winning bronze in the Team event leaving many with mouths open after a sterling performance that stunned many unbelievers.
‘’We’re on our way back!”, exclaimed the President who is also a serving Sports Commissioner in Lagos State. ‘’The future is bright and we believe that hardwork remains the only way to the top.
There is still a lot to be done. We need to improve on playing abroad and invest on coaching as well as invest on young players.
The future of the game lies with the youths and we need to develop it to replace the likes of Toriola who have done absolutely well for Nigeria”, Oshodi said.
At the Games, Table Tennis still have chances of adding to Team Nigeria’s medal haul with the Men and Women singles events still on the cards.
