ABEOKUTA—Ogun State has recorded 100 percent coverage on Routine Immunisation in 2013, surpassing the national target of 85 percent set by the National Primary Health Care Development Agency, NPHCDA, with development partners.

Commissioner for Health, Dr. Olaokun Soyinka, who disclosed this in Abeokuta, stated that a coverage of 171,359 was recorded in 2013, representing 100 percent compared to the 149,048 (82 percent) recorded in 2012 on Routine Immunisation (RI) for children between 0-11 months.

“This analysis indicates the tremendous improvement made so far in the state to free our children from vaccine-preventable diseases, particularly poliomyelitis that causes paralysis in children,” he said.
Soyinka noted that the state achieved the feat due to the administration’s commitment and support towards the provision of qualitative health care, support of partners, its social mobilization activities.
