Tamuno Danagogo
Nigeria’s sports minister, Tammy Danagogo will travel to Brazil on Wednesday to meet with FIFA president Sepp Blatter to discuss the recent development in Nigerian football, and the possible sanctions which may be taken against Nigeria following the court order which restrained the Aminu Maigari-led NFF board from controlling football affairs in the country.
It is expected also that Danagogo will explain the dissolution of the said Aminu Maigari-led board by a congress which held last Saturday. Sources inside the national sports commission have informed that “the minister will travel to Brazil to try to explain to FIFA the current developments in Nigerian football.”
The Nigerian delegation to FIFA include former CAF and FIFA executive committees member, Dr Amos Adamu and former NFA Chairman, General Dominic Oneya. We gathered that the delegation would first meet with CAF
executives before proceeding to meet with FIFA in Brazil. Nigeria faces the risk of a FIFA sanction, including suspension from international football, as a letter from the world football governing body to the Nigeria football federation reads in part.
“The NFF has been asked to relay FIFA’s position to the relevant authorities and inform them that if the aforementioned NFF officials are not fully reinstated by Tuesday 8 July 2014 the case will be referred to the appropriate FIFA bodies for sanctions, including the potential suspension of the NFF,” a part of the letter read. It is however unlikely that Maigari and his board will be reinstated, with sources informing that “Maigari and his board are gone for good and nothing will bring them back.”
Nigeria’s senate president, David Mark is also expected to travel to Brazil, but it is unclear at this point if he will be travelling together with the sports minister.
