SOME irate youths in Ifira, Akoko South East Council area of Ondo State, on Tuesday attacked and beat up the Administrative Secretary of the State Local Government Service Commission, Mrs Odunayo Ketiku, over her alleged involvement in the factionalisation of the state chapter of NULGE.
The timely intervention of policemen saved her from the hands of the youths allegedly acting the script of the leaders of the polarised state Chapter of the National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE).
Ketiku was attacked during a burial service of a Commissioner in the State Local Government Service Commission (LGSC), Alhaji Kasali Busari, in the town.
Sources said the victim of the attack would have been killed by the irate youths who inflicted several injuries on her during the beating.
She is said to be receiving treatment presently at an undisclosed hospital in Akure, the state capital.
The state chapter of NULGE have been bedeviled by leadership crisis which has resulted in the formation of a parallel body, Association of Local Government Workers of Nigeria.
It was learnt that the woman was alleged to have supported the formation of a parallel local government workers’ union.
However, sequel to her attack, workers under the aegis of the Association of Local Government Workers of Nigeria staged a protest and fingered members of NULGE as being the masterminds of the attack. But reacting to the allegation, the State President of NULGE, Comrade Olubunmi Eniayewu denied the involvement of members of the union.
