Boko Haram: Watch your tenants closely, FG tasks Landlords

ABUJA – FEDERAL Government, Monday, called on landlords to ensure that they have detail knowledge of their tenants.

The government, having noted a new tactics in the operation of the insurgents, urged landlords to develop special relationship with their tenants to verify and know them well.

The National Coordinator of National Information Centre, Mr Mike Omeri, who stated this at the routine security briefing, alongside with spokespersons of security forces, in Abuja, revealed that wanted terrorists are now looking for accommodation.

His words: “I want also appealed to landlords and tenants in the country to be sure of the tenant to accommodate in your houses.

“I want all Nigerians to develop a special relationship with their neighbour in order to have a wide knowledge of themselves.

“Every landlord must endeavour to check where their tenants are coming from because people with dubious character and intention have moved to new area and most of these people moving to these new areas are actually being looked for. So, know your tenant and where are they coming from as you welcoming any into your premises,” he warned.

Omeri also disclosed that security forces are moving closer to rescuing the abducted Chibok schoolgirls, who were kidnapped by the Boko Haram sect over two months ago.

“As you all known that citizen have joined the call for President to justify effort at finding solution to the issue of insecurity in the country particularly the rescue of abducted girls over two month ago

“I want to assure Nigerian that government is not relent, President has heard what citizen are saying and is working assiduously to ensure the rescue of those children, and to make sure that peace return to the nook and cranny of this nation, so that, issue of insecurity will not spread to other part of the country,” he said.

On the allegation by the elders of Chibok community that government did not carry them along on the rescue mission, Omeri said the centre has been opened enough.

He explained that, they had always been communicating, which had been reported by media houses, adding that if they are referring to security information, he cannot say anything about that.

The coordinator also commented on the escape of 60 women from the Boko Haram’s den, saying the centre would not want to speculate because they do not have information on it.

“We have put out calls to our people there to verify but no confirmation on the story,” Omeri said.
