OWERRI—Friends and political associates of the immediate past Governor of Imo State, Chief Ikedi Ohakim, have appealed to the security agencies to painstakingly investigate the recent bombing of his Owerri private residence.
Addressing newsmen in Owerri, the State Secretary of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chief George Eguh, described the incident as an assassination attempt on the life of the former governor by his political enemies.
While insisting that the bombing was aimed at snuffing life out of Ohakim and members of his family, Eguh equally wondered why the incident coincided with the return of Ohakim and his family from a medical treatment abroad.
“If the former governor and his family had not decided at the last minute to spend the night in their Okohia country home, we would have been talking about them in the past tense,” he said.
Also reacting, former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Prince Ken Njemanze, SAN, warned that it would be terrible if Ndigbo allowed this level of hate and destruction to creep into the South East.
