A farmer, Adewanle Adewuyi, has instituted a N706.350million suit against the Inspector General of Police, (IGP) and the Lagos State Police commissioner over alleged destruction of his farmland last December.

In the suit filed before an Ikeja High Court, the plaintiff prayed the court to, among other things, declare that he was entitled to the statutory and customary right of occupancy of all the parcel of land measuring about 10.014 hectares (26 acres ) located at Agricultural Zone Ago-Mowo Villiage, Badagry, Lagos State.

He claimed that the land was delineated in survey plan, “LS/D/BG 234, dated 02/12/1991 and 09/12/1991” respectively, and drawn by surveyor A.B Apatira and counter-signed by O.A. Somoye (the then surveyor-general of Lagos State).

He said the land covered with a letter of allocation, dated August 12,1988, with reference number ALHA/ AGRIC.2100/11, was destroyed on December 17, 2013.

Other defendants joined in the suit are the governor of Lagos State and the Attorney General of the state.
The claimant was asking the court to declare that the first and second defendants’ act and conduct of invading and destroying his farm amounted to trespass.
