Yenagoa—Bayelsa State command of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, is to investigative the cause of last Friday’s tragic incident, which claimed the lives of two pupils at the Swali suburb of Yenagoa.

The deceased, a two-year-old girl and a four-year-old boy of the same parents were reportedly returning from school on the fateful day in company of their elder cousin, aged 14, who is still receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Centre when the accident happened.

It was learnt that a patrol team of FRSC was pursuing a Keke NAPEP when tragedy struck, prompting a near riotous protest from the Keke NAPEP drivers.

One of the pupils was said to have died on the spot when the Keke NAPEP summersaulted while the second later gave up the ghost at the hospital.

Briefing newsmen in his office yesterday in Yenagoa, the state FRSC Sector Commander, Mr. Vincent Jack, expressed regret over the incident.

He said a high powered investigative panel would be set up to unravel the circumstances surrounding the accident.

“It is on this premise that the corps marshal and chief executive had directed that a high powered inquiry should be set up. We are going to hear from all the parties, the Keke union, the driver, the only surviving child in the accident, and the people around so as to get to the root of the matter.

“We will not, at any point in time, mortgage our image. We are well trained, we know what resources the Federal Government has committed to keeping this corps,” he said.
