Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta State has called on political leaders in the country to refrain from inflammatory statements on the current insecurity in the country, noting that doing so would make efforts at curbing the security challenge counter-productive.

He spoke in Lagos when the National Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ, conferred an award on him.
Uduaghan, represented by the state Commissioner for Information, Mr. Chike Ogeah, said: “As Nigeria grapples with the challenge of winning the war against terror, Governor Uduaghan, has urged political leaders to always use their positions to unite the country and join hands with relevant authorities in defeating the enemies of the country.

“The fact that the international community is aiding the country to combat terror, leaders, irrespective of political leaning, should be statesman-like in their utterances and support the Federal Government in the war against terrorism.”

Also speaking at the event, National President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Mr. Mohammed Garba, described Uduaghan as one of the governors whose policies and programmes had brought about transformation in their states.
