BENIN CITY—THE leadership of All Progressives Congress, APC, in Edo State, yesterday, warned that it will not fold its hands and allow any attempt to destabilise the peace in the state by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, following reports of alleged plot to impeach Governor Adams Oshiomhole, his deputy, Dr. Pius Odubu and the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Uyi Igbe.

But the four APC lawmakers, who recently defected to the PDP, distanced themselves from the alleged plot, noting, however, that they will not fail to exercise their constitutional responsibility if an impeachable offence was committed by Governor Oshiomhole.

It was alleged that the lawmakers who recently dumped the APC for the PDP were working in tandem with top leaders of PDP to impeach the governor, his deputy and the Speaker of the House.

But former governor of the state, Chief John Odigie Oyegun and the Publicity Secretary of APC in the state, said the PDP’s alleged desperation in the state will not work because the “people will resist them.”

Reacting, one of the lawmakers who defected to PDP and member representing Orhiomnwon constituency 11, Mr. Friday Ogierakhi, said they were not aware of any plot to impeach the governor, adding that they left the APC due to what he described as the dictatorial leadership style of Oshiomhole.

He said: “I believe that first, it is just the lamentation of the guilty. If an impeachable offence had been committed, of course we will exercise our constitutional responsibility if there is any. Nobody can intimidate or stop us from raising alarm. If an impeachable offence is raised, we will discharge our responsibility in line with the constitution. But we cannot do that where of course nothing like that has been put on the table.

“So, I can tell you that I am not in any plot to impeach Oshiomhole, his geputy or the Speaker. Our disagreement with our former party is about the deceit, treachery, arbitrariness and all forms of political misbehaviour introduced into the running of the party. Again, I can tell you that there is no iota of truth that we collected money. It is only the work of mischief makers. I was not given any money.”
