The Anglican Diocese of Lagos Mainland opens its four-day synod on Thursday at the Cathedral of St. Jude, Ebute-Meta with the rising insecurity in the country expected to be a major concern.
It is the second session of its third synod, with the theme: “As for me and my household, we will serve The Lord,” taken from Joshua 24: 15. The four-day annual event will hold at two venues, the Cathedral of St. Jude, Ebute-Meta and All Saints’ Church, Yaba, whilst the opening and closing Holy Communion services hold May 22 and 25 at Ebute Meta, the opening ceremony hold on Friday, and the business session on Saturday at Yaba.
The chief host is the diocesan bishop, the Most Rev Adebayo Akinde, who doubles as the archbishop of the Province of Lagos. The synod is an annual festival of the bishop to celebrate God’s faithfulness, reflect on challenges facing the Church and Society, and proffer ideas on the way forward.
This year’s session will feature robust deliberations from representatives of various parishes that make up the diocese, on issues of common concern. Dignitaries from within and outside the church will join the Anglican faithful to share fellowship and compare notes on urgent matters of public concern.
