ABEOKUTA — A  magistrate’s court sitting in Isabo, Abeokuta, Wednesday, remanded 10 persons for  allegedly attacking Oba Afolabi Olaleye, a  traditional ruler in  Saala, Ayetoro, in Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun State.

The  accused persons, Aremu Faleye, 40; Lekan Kudaisi, 30; Tunde Ojelabi, 35; Yekini Akintola, 40; Bashiru Fatade, 40; Ayinde Bamigbade, 40; Olusegun Omitola, 47; Olayiwola Lamidi, 33; Ogunshina Monmodu, 42; Shola Jenfa, 30 and Ijadu Rafiu, 30, were said to have committed  the offence on April 6, 2014 at 9.50 a.m. at Saala’s quarters Ayetoro.

They were accused of invading  the monarch’s house and  damaged  iron door, window glass, side iron door, padlock, wooden door and four Honda Odyssey  bus tyres all  valued at N165,000.
They were also reported to have stolen   a gold chain valued at N150,000 and poured petrol on  one Yekini Salami, thereby causing  a  breach of the peace in the community.

According to the prosecutor, ASP Banji Sangotokun, the offence is contrary to and punishable under Sections 517, 249(d), 249(9), 451(b) and 351 of the Crinimal Code Laws of Ogun State of Nigeria, 2006.
All the accused persons, however, pleaded not guilty to the five- count charge bordered on breach of peace, damaging, stealing and assault levelled against them.

Counsel to the accused, Sola Koleola, prayed the court to grant bail to the accused persons in most liberal terms.
The magistrate, Anthony Araba, ordered that all the accused persons be remanded in prison custody.
He, however, adjourned the case till  May 30, 2014 for consideration of bail application.
