LISBON – Jorge Jesus will stay as manager of Portuguese champions Benfica next season despite being linked to several top European jobs, club chairman Luis Felipe Vieira said.

“The one thing I can say is that Jorge Jesus will still be the coach at Benfica for next season,” Vieira told the RTP television channel late Tuesday. “There is no need for further speculation.

Jesus has been linked to several top European clubs after the Lisbon giants pulled off a triple on the domestic front and reach the final of the Europa League, where they lost on penalties to Sevilla.

Among those reported to be interested in obtaining his services were Monaco in France and AC Milan, but Vieira said Jesus had turned down at least one offer from a top European side in order to complete his contract at Benfica which has one year to run.

Vieira defended the four million euros a year salary the club pays to Jesus, saying the high amount was justified by the work he put in.(AFP)
