Ghana forward Andre Ayew is confident more than one African team will make it beyond the group stages at the 2014 World Cup.
The Black Stars have been Africa’s sole shining light in the last two editions of the World Cup.
Ghana were the only amongst five African sides to progress beyond the group stages at the 2006 World Cup in Germany.
The Black Stars bettered their performance four years later in South Africa when they made it to the quarter finals even with an additional African team in 2010.
Cote d’Ivoire, Nigeria, Cameroon, Algeria and Ghana will be representing Africa in the upcoming finals in Brazil.
And Ghana’s Olympique Marseille enforcer Andre Ayew believes it is time more African teams progress towards the latter stages of the competition.
“It was difficult, but it was also big time. Hopefully, this year there will be many more African teams in the second round,” Ayew told Le Phoceen.
Ayew is one of 26 players selected into the provisional Ghana squad for the World Cup by coach Kwesi Appiah.
The 24-year-old is expected to make the final Black Stars squad for the finals to be held in Brazil.
