ENUGU — The Indepen-dent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has said over one million voters were expected to participate in the upcoming distribution of permanent voters cards, PVCs, and continuous voters’ registration, CVR, in Enugu State.
The exercise would be conducted in 621 polling units in the state due to incomplete data.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner of INEC in Enugu State, Dr. Lawrence Azubuike, who disclosed this during a press briefing in Enugu, said that apart from incomplete data, there were also other reasons that rendered registration in the 621 polling units invalid.
He said details of the affected units in each local government area could be ascertained and accessed by members of the public during the display of voters list as scheduled.
He urged those who were not up to 18 years in 2011 during the last exercise to take advantage of the current one to register.
Azubuike disclosed that the distribution of Permanent Voters Cards would run from May 23-25, 2014, adding that the exercise would take place in all the polling units in Enugu State.
According to him, the exercise will take place between 8a.m. and 4p.m. each day, advising all those who registered during the 2010/2011 registration exercise in the state to visit the polling units where they registered to collect their PVCs.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner advised those who fell within any of aforementioned categories and were desirous of registering to participate in future elections to avail themselves of the unique opportunity.
”A total of 621 polling units in Enugu State have been targeted for fresh registration due to incomplete data and other reasons that have rendered registration in those units invalid.
“Details of the affected units in each local government area can be ascertained and accessed by members of the public during the display of the voters list as scheduled.
“In other words, all those who fall within any of the aforementioned categories and who are desirous of registering to participate in future elections are advised to avail themselves of this unique opportunity to do so,” he stated.
He averred that INEC had concluded arrangements to commence the distribution of Permanent Voters Cards, PVCs, to registered voters, adding that Enugu State is one of the ten states in the first phase where the exercises had been scheduled to commence.
He reminded registered voters that they needed to take the Temporary Voters Cards in their possession to the polling units as they would be tendered before the collection of the permanent cards.
