THE opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Ondo state, yesterday raised the alarm over alleged plans by the ruling Labour Party, LP, to produce fake security report to prosecute the court case in the inconclusive Ilaje/Ese Odo bye election in the state.

The party’s Deputy Chairman, Fatai Adams, at a briefing in Akure, advised security operatives not to compromise their professional responsibilities.

But in a swift response, Chairman of LP, Chief Dele Akinyele, challenged the PDP to provide evidence of its allegation.

Akinyele described the allegation as not only jittery but defeatist on the part of PDP.

The LP Chairman said it was not the duty of the party or government in power to write security report but that of the Department of State Security DSS and had since submitted same on the election to the appropriate quarters including the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

He asked the PDP to stop raising false accusation and be ready to explain its actions and inactions at the court.

However, Adams alleged that the said security report “is intended to falsify details of activities on the day of the inconclusive election.”

Lambasting the ruling party for going to court to delay the supplementary election, he argued that the party should have gone into the election “if it is sure it is popular and controls the electorate in the state.”

He said the party would resist any plan to mislead the court this time around as it was allegedly done during the governorship election tribunal.

The party said “it is important to bring to the notice of the general public that the L.P. has again embarked on a mission to procure a compromised security report from the DSSS.

“This warning becomes very imperative as we will contend furiously with whoever compromises the privilege of his or her position to commit any crime that is targetted against the interest of the PDP on this issue, a word they say is enough for the wise.”
