BENIN— Edo State chapter of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has presented a panel report that indicted the state government in the execution of the collapsed part of the Benin Central Hospital, just as it reiterated its earlier call on the government to bring down the entire structure in the interest of the lives of those who would patronise the hospital.
It will be recalled that Governor Adams Oshiomhole had last week re-awarded the contract for the 200-ward block, and Accident and Emergency Complex of the hospital that partially collapsed during construction two years ago.
State Chairman of PDP, Chief Dan Orbih, in Benin, yesterday, while displaying the panel report, insisted the state government “erred by re-awarding a contract worth over N3 billion to a company that has no qualified structural engineer and architect.”
Govt reacts
However, Special Adviser to the Governor on Media Affairs, Prince Kassim Afegbua, said: “What PDP is brandishing is their own document. It cannot be the document of Edo State Government. It cannot be the document of a probe panel submitted to the governor.
“PDP cannot assume the role of an alternate government. If they have got their own cocoon to concoct the report and brandishing it to the unsuspecting public, good for them.
“As a government, it is our responsibility to do what is right in the best interest of the overwhelming majority of Edo people.”
