PORT HARCOURT— THE Department of State Security, DSS, yesterday, arraigned three persons before a Port Harcourt Magistrate’s Court, Rivers State, for the abduction of the Dean of the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, Archbishop Ignatius Kattey.

The accused persons were said to have collected the sum of N10 million as ransom before the release of the archbishop.
The accused persons, facing a 17-count charge are Chibueze Nwaogba, Onyedikachi Okoro and Philip Ogbuewu.

They were alleged to have kidnapped the archbishop and his wife, Beatrice, on September 6, 2013, at Aleto-Eleme, in Eleme Local Government Area of the state.

No plea was taken, while Magistrate I. Agbesor ordered their remand in prison custody as the court lacks the jurisdiction to entertain the matter.
The magistrate also ordered that the case file be sent to the state Director of Public Prosecution, DPP, for legal advice before adjourning the matter till September 1, 2014 for mention.
