WARRI— THE Delta State Government has constituted a task force to check the menace posed by strangers, particularly armed herdsmen in the state.

Briefing newsmen after a security meeting in Warri, yesterday, Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan said the committee had become imperative, following incidents of strange elements terrorising natives and destroying property in the state.

He said: “Delta is hospitable. There are cattle rearers born and living here, some as old as me.

In the past, conflicts between these persons and the locals bothered on missing animals or destruction of farmlands by indiscriminate grazing. These problems were settled easily.

In the last one year, the situation has changed. People are disappearing, women being raped. Three weeks ago, we called on traditional rulers to be vigilant. The situation has not improved.”
