Delta 2015: Battle for Ochei’s seat at fever pitch

BY Austin Ogwuda

Asaba— THE battle of who will represent Aniocha North constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly come 2015 has reached fever pitch as Vanguard gathered that the governorship hopefuls are scheming to ensure that they produce the next Assembly man to represent the area.

Aniocha constituency seat, which is presently occupied by the immediate past Speaker of the House, Mr. Victor Ochei, parades the like of the member representing Aniocha/Oshimili federal constituency in the National Assembly, Mr. Ndudi Elumelu, who is also running for the governorship; a political kingmaker, Chief Nkem Okwuofu, and Victor Ochei, himself who is also running for the governorship, among others.

On the line up to contest the seat are the Head, Delta State Science and Technology, and Senior Special Adviser to the Delta State Governor on Information and Communications Technology, ICT, Mr. Sunny Ofili; Mr. UZ Idabor, a close associate of former governor, Chief James Ibori; state Commissioner for Poverty Alleviation, Dr. Anthonia Ashiedu; Commissioner for Special Duties (Project Monitoring), Mr. Ifeanyi Osuoza, among others.

A top politician from the area said, yesterday, that “the battle is hot because these politicians are flexing muscles to assert themselves as to who is in control of the area.
“What we are seeing is dicey as the contestants themselves are playing safe to know where the pendulum will eventually swing to, as it also affects their chances.”
