LAGOS—Lagos State House of Assembly yesterday, ordered the payment of outstanding salaries and allowances of former political office holders and allowances on the financial positions of the Local Government Areas LGAs and Local Council Development Areas, LCDAs, in the state.
It also directed that subsequent administrations in councils deductions from the monthly allocations of LGAs and LCDAs be domiciled in a special vote in the Ministry of Finance for the payment of severance allowance of political office holders, while the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs should forward to the House a monthly report on the payments of all outstanding salaries and allowances of former political office holders in LGs and LCDAs.
This was part of the recommendations of the 7-man Ad-Hoc Committee on outstanding salaries and allowances of former political office holders in LGs and LCDAs at its plenary session.
Presenting the committee’s report on the floor of the House, Ajibayo Adeyeye recommended that monies be deducted and sourced from the monthly allocations of Local Governments and LCDAs for the payment of outstanding salaries and allowances of former political office holders.
The report of the committee, after thorough debate by members, was subsequently adopted as a resolution of the House.
The committee recommended that the payment of outstanding salaries allowances of former political office holders in LGs and LCDAs between 1999 and 2000 should be implanted between the months of April and July, 2014.
