IN PAINS … Super Eagles striker, Emmanuel Emenike writhing in pains after he got knocked in the semi final match against Mali at the Africa Nations Cup in South Africa last month. He has lambasted both the NFF and Coach Stephen Keshi for not asking after his state of health since after the Nations Cup.
It was very hot at Huseyin Avni Aker Stadyumu yesterday as rioting hooligans interrupted the Trabzonspor – Fenerbahce fixture.
Super Eagles forward Emmanuel Emenike was on song as he scored a goal that gave Fenerbahce the lead in 23rd minute.
The referee Bulent Yildirim stopped the game shortly after half-time whistle due to rioting hooligans. The situation went out of hand and the most endangered player was Volkan Demirel, who was thrown flares at during preparations to deal with a dangerous free kick from the side of the field.
The scenes that led to the suspension of the match could not be established but further decisions on the matter will be made by the FA in the following days.
Meanwhile, latest reports on the match have it that Emenike’s goal may be cancelled by the FA. Despite referee Bulent Yildirim awarding the goal to the Nigeria international in his match report, the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) is likely to overrule the decision of the official in the coming days.
Since the match was abandoned after supporters of Trabzonspor threw objects to the field, the Disciplinary Committee of the Federation is expected to cancel the scoreline and hand a 3 – 0 win to Fenerbache. Using past precedent as a guide, earlier this season Galatasaray were awarded three points and three goals following disturbances in the clash with city rivals Besiktas.
Not taking into account yesterday’s events, Emmanuel Emenike has recorded 8 goals (5 assists) in the Super League this season.
After 23 matches played, Fenerbahce lead the standings in Turkey with 51 points, 3 more than champions Galatasary who have played a game more.
