LAGOS—One Emmanuel Edet, a carpenter, was remanded in prison by an Ebute Metta magistrate, Ms S. Solebo, for killing his son.

The 12-year-old carpenter’s son, who used to work as an apprentice with his father, was said to have gone out for a beach party instead of going to the father’s workshop at Okun-Ajah.

His outing got his 39-year-old father angry and he used a metal belt on the son. He became unconscious and eventually died.

According to the prosecutor, Inspector George Nwosu, the crime took place on February 11 at 11pm. Another man, Owuye Omolaju was also remanded for murder.

Omolaju, who works at God is Good bakery at Mayegun Street, Jakande Estate, Ajah, on February 14 at 1am, reportedly had a fight with the deceased, Wasiu Olobe aged 32, who he allegedly stabbed in the chest with a broken bottle.

Olobe died on his way to the hospital. The act is punishable under Section 221 of the criminal law of the state, the charge said.

The matter was adjourned to April 11.
