Civil society groups flay Kwankwaso over comments against Jonathan

By Emmanuel Elebeke

ABUJA — A coalition of civil society organisations and Non-Governmental Organisations, Northern Alternative Forum, yesterday lambasted Kano State governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, for accusing  President Jonathan of failing to develop the north.

Chairman of the group, Mallam Gidado Ibrahim, who addressed journalists in Abuja, accused Governor Kwankwaso’s stands on federal government’s performance in the North.

It said the governor’s position was lacking in principle and misleading to the rest of the north by derailing the foundation laid by revered statesmen, Late Mallam Aminu Kano and Alh. Mohammed Abubakar Rimi.

His words: “The Northern Coalition of Civil Society Organizations is dismayed by the ranting of the Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, who recently, as published in several newspapers, attacked the federal government for allegedly failing the North.

“Governor Kwankwaso crass opportunism and lack of principle have almost derailed the foundation laid by revered statesmen, late Mallam Aminu Kano and Abubakar Rimi, is one of those who exploit the name of the North for personal political gain at the expense of the region’s development.

“It is regrettable that in recent times Alhaji Kwankwaso has stridently sought to replace the true traditions of Mallam Aminu Kano’s pro-people, pan-Nigerian politics with a stunted, self-seeking personal mythology called Kwankwasiya.”

Governor Kwankwaso had during a meeting with the leadership of Northern Elders Forum at  Government House last week, declared President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan as incompetent and incapable of fixing challenges of Nigerian development.
