UGHELLI—Former Minister of State for Education, Olorogun Kenneth Gbagi, has said that there was no division in Ughievwen Kingdom, in Delta State, noting that all the four splitter kings that emerged in the kingdom over six months ago would be given staff of office.

Gbagi, during the 2013 ‘Oginibo’ Day, explained: “Ughievwen is made up of four sons of one father and mother. They are the four Ughievwen children of Ukpedi, Owawha, Uhurie  and Orhowhwe. All the four children went into an agreement. I believe it was a consensus that these four children, for purposes of development, will be together at some point, but they must definitely go their separate ways after a while. So, there is nothing that we have done that is wrong.

“The four ruling houses that were working together have gone their separate ways. Before the meeting that was held in my house, the people of Uhurie had gone, they established their own king and left. It was not me, I could not have done it myself. So, the four children have gone their separate ways. We have four kings in Ughievwen. In the course of time, staffs of office will be presented to them.

“Some kings stayed for so many years before getting their staffs of office. At the appropriate time, they will be given staffs of office.”

On the orders of the state governor, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan, that those parading themselves as kings in Ughievwen should be arrested, Gbagi said: “While I will not join issues with the governor, the governor and I had a discussion about the four kings that have been installed in Ughievwen and we have agreed that we should have more meetings. Particularly, the deputy governor, Prof Amos Utuama and I will decide when to give them staff of office.

“So, whatever the governor has said, he is the governor of the state, he is entitled to say what he wants to say, but I am saying that the governor and I  had a meeting and we had agreed on the issue of staff of office.”
