Lagos — A 45-year-old man, Adeola Adelawal, was yesterday arraigned before a Lagos Magistrate Court in Ikeja, over alleged stealing of a fairly used car worth N800,000. The defendant who resides at 12, Shomade Street in Ikorodu area of Lagos, is facing a one-count charge of stealing preferred against him by the police.
The defendant who is a trader was docked before Magistrate A.O. Akinde.
The prosecutor, Sergeant Chinalu Uwadione, told the court that the defendant committed the alleged offence on May 22, 2013 at about 10.am on Ikorodu road.
He said the defendant stole a fairly used Honda Accord car, with number plate JN 897 AAA, engine J30A41144465 and chassis IHGCM66503A094209 belonging to one Alani Sulaiman.
According to the prosecutor, the offence is contrary to section 278 and punishable under section 285 of the criminal laws of Lagos state of Nigeria, 2011.
Earlier, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge against him.
The magistrate granted him bail in the sum of N500,000, with two responsible sureties in like sum stating that one of the sureties should deposit the sum of N20,000 in to the account of the court chief registrar.
She adjourned the matter to January 23,2014, for mention.
