NDDC ‘ll establish power plant for South South, says Ewa-Henshaw

BY JOHNBOSCO AGBAKWURU & JOSEPH ERUNKE

ABUJA—CHAIRMANSHIP nominee for Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, Senator Bassey Ewa-Henshaw, yesterday, told the Senate that if confirmed, one of the first projects he would embark upon would be the establishment of a power plant to generate electricity for the entire Niger Delta.

This is even as he attributed the problems confronting the commission since establishment in 2002 to waste of resources as well as inefficiency in the management of the commission’s affairs by its handlers.

Ewa-Henshaw, who spoke while answering questions from members of the Senate Committee on Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, during the committee’s screening of nominees for the NDDC Board, noted that adequate power supply was needed in the South South geo-political region to accelerate development in the area.

The names of the nominees were sent to the Senate for confirmation by President Goodluck Jonathan on November 20.
