Jonathan commissions road, classroom constructed by Enugu philanthropist

ENUGU—It was celebration at the weekend, as President Goodluck Jonathan commisioned an 8.5 kilometre road, ultra-modern classroom block and church auditorium built by Enugu State philanthropist, Emperor Chris Baywood-Ibe, President/CEO of Baywood Continental Limited.

The celebration began with a church service at the Cathedral Church of St Mark Anglican Communion, presided over by the most Revd. Amos Madu, Archbishop Province of Enugu and Bishop of Oji-River Diocese. Rt Revd. Emmanuel A. Ugwu Bishop of the Awgu/Aninri diocese delivered the sermon.

In his sermon, Rt Revd. Ugwu advised the congregation to emulate the example of Baywood-Ibe, as it was more blessed to give than to receive. He thanked the donor for single-handedly building the 8.5km road, which had long been abandoned by successive administrations in the state, and prayed that God continued to provide for him and his family.

The Awgu/Aninri diocese of the Anglican Communion used the occasion to honour the multi-millionaire philanthropist and his wife with the titles of Father of eminence and Mother of eminence respectively.
The Awgu traditional rulers council also used the occasion to thank the donor and present him with an award to show the appreciation of the community.

Immediately after the church service, the projects were commissioned one after another, as the people celebrated.
First to be commissioned was an ultra-modern primary school block, followed by the Church Auditorium and the 8.5km Agbogugu, Isu-Awaa, Agbudu by President Goodluck Jonathan, represented by the Chairman of Federal Road Maintenance Agency, FERMA, Engr Ezekiel Adeniji. While commissioning the road, Mr Adeniji stated that as a professional, he had first taken the pains to inspect the road to assess its quality.
