There was traffic gridlock on major roads in Lagos, today, as residents engaged in last minute shopping for Christmas with travellers adding to the melee.
Mr. Ogbonaya Aguamba, a bus driver, who was trapped in the traffic on Ikorodu-Mile 12 road, said the situation was made worse by ongoing expansion of roads in the area.
He said: “I had to charge passengers twice the normal price today after a colleague of mine told me he spent over two hours in traffic, driving from Ikorodu to Mile 12.
“Fortunately for me, the crowd is there and they are willing to pay because everyone wants to go somewhere.”
Another respondent, Funke Odu, said she regretted going out to the market due to the hardship she encountered.
She said: “I had thought tomorrow will be very unpredictable. That is why I chose today, but the traffic situation is not encouraging.
“Besides, the market is so crowded that one can hardly see products or walk freely.”
