Gbenga Elegbeleye, the Director General, National Sports Commission (NSC), on Monday, said he was confident of the home-based Super Eagles lifting the Championship of African Nations (CHAN) trophy.
The 2014 CHAN will be hosted in South Africa between Jan. 11 and Feb. 1.
Elegbeleye told newsmen at the ongoing “Mark D Ball” basketball tournament and Sports Beauty Pageant in Otukpo, Benue, that Nigeria, the current African champions, has all it takes to win CHAN.
He said that the quality of players in the team and their coaching crew, led by Stephen Keshi, gave him the confidence that the Eagles would excel in South Africa.
“We have one of the best coaches in Africa today and I have no doubt in my mind that the team is going to win the tournament.
“What gave me the confidence that we are going to win is the length of camping the team had and the quality of players we are going to parade in the tournament,” Elegbeleye said.
He noted that football administrators had mapped out strategies on how to excel in CHAN and the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
