Even as one tree is believed to not make a forest, at the least, “ It (One tree) can start a forest, as One step must also start each journey, said, it is up to every individual,” this dictum, as predicated on ‘The Power of One,’ forms the focus of this edition of the annual Speech and Prize-Giving Day, of the Corona Secondary School (CSS) Agbara, Ogun State, in her clear determination to rouse consciousness of the students and Nigerians in order that all may chase vibrant visions and be instrumental for change for the profound benefit nation.

Speaking at the occasion, the   Educationist and Executive Director Corona Schools’ Trust Council, Mrs. Olufunto Igun, believes that an individual cannot do everything to impact his nation, but yet he can do something.

According to her, “The power of one is that you do your bit, I do my bit and then together, we move Nigeria forward but if all of us are just sitting back saying the government is not doing well and we are not doing what we have the capacity to do, then the nation would not move forward.

Stressing the significance of   the Prize-Giving Day, Igun maintained that it is thoughtful and also on the positive side of academics to do so .

She said, “The programme is on the positive side of learning because in the class you have someone who does better than the other. If you look at the prizes, they are not just for academics alone but also   for peripheral.

Explaining further the reason for the prizes, Igun pointed out that it was meant to motivate those who are doing well to do better and those who are not doing so well to also improve.”

In the same stratum, Chairman of the occasion, Mr. Ademola Aladekomo, The Managing Director Chams Ltd who also brought an uncommon perspective to the theme noted that, “Nations are not built by masses, nations are built by individuals.”

Throwing light on the poem:   ‘The Power of One’ he said, “You can only knew a few number of people in any society, family and group to make a difference.   “Leaders are not that many, it may be just one out of 170 million, one out of 30. It is that leader that draws other people along to make a change. Therefore, we are quite excited that we are grooming up leaders of tomorrow here.”

On its part, the guest speaker, Mr. Eromosele Omokhodion, the school’s Headboy of 2004 class, amongst other issues raised, emphasised on the triad ‘theme of Friendship, the theme of Structure and the theme of Discipline.’
