By Jimitota ONOYUME

PORT HARCOURT –  CHEVRON Nigeria Limited (CNL), has described the Global Memorandum of Understanding, GMoU’s model in enhancing community corporate relationship as a huge success.

Speaking at the annual general meeting of the Kula Regional Development Committee, KURDC in Port Harcourt, the General Manager Policy, Government and Public Affairs, CNL, Mr Deji Haastrup, said the company would continue to take steps to improve on the GMoU within its host communities.

Continuing, he said one of the unique qualities of the GMoU was making communities drive the process, adding that it creates empowerment and capacity building opportunities in the company’s host communities.

While commending Kula community for erecting a secretariat in Port Harcourt, Rivers State for its Kula Regional Development Committee, which is under the GMoU, Chevron said the community’s action is an indication of its foresightedness.

In his address, Chairman, Kula Regional Development Council, KRDC, Mr Stanley Benibo, enjoined the oil giant to create a separate employment scheme for youths of the area, saying it would help reduce the challenges of unemployment in the area.

The Chairman said his body ensured maximum participation of all stakeholders in the GMoU process, adding that it also procured twenty Kia Rio cars for indigenes under the RDC interest free transportation loan scheme.

He said the RDC was also able to negotiate an increase in funds for projects, adding that the body also “installed a 500KVA power generator for the community town and 30KVA each for Boro, Offoinama, lucky land and Robert kiri communities”
