Apparently desirous of bringing back the entrepreneurial spirit of Ndi Anambra in the area of human endeavours, a group of Anambrarians that found themselves in the enclave of Balogun Business Association (BBA) has risen to check the brain drain currently being noticed in the state. The group under the acronym, Youths Initiatives for the Restoration of Positive Values in Anambra State ( YIRPVAS) who said that citizens of the state have laboured variously in the development of other states and have left their own state fallow and unattractive, has decided to replicate what they have in various parts of Nigeria in their home state.
President of the Association, Mr. Tony Obih, said that they intend to build an Ultra-Modern Market in Ogbunike, in Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State last week during the Association’s one year anniversary at the Trade Fair Auditorium, Lagos.
Obih said that the market which would cover about 3,000 acres of land and to be named West African Trade Centre (WATC) will en-house about 50,000 shops, a secondary school semblance to the unity schools in Nigeria with a fire point and strong security network.
He said that apart from the market, YIRPVAS also aims to act as a pressure group to check excesses of successive governments in Anambra State and use its eagle eye posture to dictate areas government is lacking in infrastructure and mount pressure for remedies. “We want to use this medium to precipitate a global movement for the repatriation of the investments of the people of Anambra State to our home state with a view to creating employment and stemming the dangerous trend of brain-drain in the state,” Obih said.
He noted that the Association is stemming from Lagos but will soon embrace Ndi Anambra from other states of the federation and even from diaspora adding that through enlightenment campaigns, they intend to eliminate the alien culture of violence among the youths of Anambra State and thereby reduce criminality that is gaining ground among youths in the state.
In his contribution, the Secretary of the Association, Mr. Emma Otunabo noted that although, the group is having an eye on the governance of the state, it is not working for any politician adding that attempts in the past by politicians to highjack the Association for their selfish ends have always hit brick walls. Mr. Nsofor Hilary, the 1st Vice President of the Association, also noted that they have met with the government of Anambra State.
