BENIN—LOYALISTS of Chief Mike Oghiadomhe, Chief of Staff to President Goodluck Jonathan, in Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Edo North, have passed a vote of confidence on Mike Oghiadomhe, insisting that he remains the recognised leader of the party in the zone.
However, state Chairman of PDP, Chief Dan Orbih, who hails from the same local government with Ogiadomhe (Etsako Central) when contacted said he was yet to be briefed by the senatorial Vice Chairman of the party.
Orbih said: “I am yet to be briefed by the senatorial Vice Chairman, Mr. Johnson Abulagba, on what transpired because I was away to attend to other party matters.”
He explained that the meeting was not originally scheduled to pass a vote of no confidence on Mike Oghiadohme, adding “it is a party thing and I need to know the reasons for the decision if it will stand or not.”
It will be recalled that at an expanded meeting of Edo North leaders of the party in Afashio, Jattu, near Auchi, the leaders said that they no longer had confidence in the leadership of Chief Oghiadomhe.
The leaders of the party, who took the decision after exhaustive deliberations weekend at an expanded leadership of the party meeting in Afashio, said that the decision was aimed at re-strategising and improving the fortunes of PDP in the zone come 2015, even as they called for his immediate sack by the President.
However, a statement by Sheik Mukhta Elinoba, PDP Chairman in Estako Central, and Chairman of PDP local government in the Senatorial district, described the purported removal of Oghiado-mhe as the senatorial leader as unpopular and undemocratic.
