Fed Cup: Maigari expects spectacular finale

Lagos –  The President of Nigeria Football Association (NFA), Aminu Maigari, says he expects  “surefire spectacular grand finale” during the 68th Federation Cup finals in Lagos on Sunday.

A statement released by the association’s Media Officer, Ademola Olajire, on Friday, said the final matches of the country’s oldest club competition for men and women, would, for the first time, be staged on the same day.

Rivers Angels will play against Nasarawa Amazons in women’s final, while Enyimba FC of Aba, Abia, will take on Warri Wolves in the men’s final.

The statement said Maigari, whose administration had been committed to restoring the glory and glamour of the Federation Cup, believed the clubs would give the spectators moments to cheer.

It quotes him as saying: “I am aware of the quality of the four teams on display. They are strong and capable and will treat everyone to a memorable afternoon.

“The four teams also have impressive fan base and will storm Lagos with their supporters to complement the already-guaranteed 10,000 fans that Lagos State Government has mobilised.”

It also said that Maigari had extolled the government for its contribution toward the success of the competition.

“We are happy to partner with them with regard to the grand finale, and on our part, we will continue to ensure global best practices in organisation,’’ the statement said.

It said officials of the state government had given a re-assurance that cheques for the winners, runners-up, Most Valuable Players and Top Scorers were ready.

The winner of the men’s competition will go home with two million naira, the runner-up, one  million naira; the Most Valuable Player, N150, 000, and the Top Scorer, N100, 000.

The winner of the women’s event will receive one million naira, runner-up, N500, 000, Most Valuable Player, N150, 000 and Top Scorer, N100, 000.

The statement said that no fewer than 1,000 security personnel would be on duty on the day.  (NAN)
