For bringing honour to Urhobo land, Delta State and Nigeria through their performances in sports, Chief Oghoyota Amori plans to host Moscow 2013 World Championship medalist, Blessing Okagbare and some Delta athletes who were part of Team Nigeria’s success at the just concluded Africa Championship in Mauritius.
Under Amori’s tenure as Education Commissioner under the James Ibori administration, school sports activities flourished, paving the way for the state’s victory at Bauchi 2000National Sports Festival, Abuja 2004 and Gateway 2006.
Speaking yesterday, Amori said that the feat recorded by Okagbare in Moscow and the junior athletes in Mauritius must not go unnoticed, adding: “They have made entire Urhobos, Deltans and Nigerians proud.”
While Okagbare’s two medals in Moscow ended Nigeria’s 14-year wait for medals in the IAAF World Championship, two junior athletes from Delta Central Senatorial zone , long jumper Ese Brume and sprinter Divine Oduduru played a key role in Nigeria’s victory at the 11th Africa Junior Championship in Mauritius. Amori is from same Senatorial Zone.
