ANAMBRA 2013: Separating the men from the boys

BY VINCENT UJUMADU

WITH the primaries of the various political parties that  will contest for the November 16 governorship being concluded, the wheat has been separated from the chaff and the men from the boys.

At least 32 aspirants indicated interest in the contest in the three major parties, APGA, APC and PDP and by Monday, a pointer to the line up had emerged.

While PDP picked Comrade Tony Nwoye and APGA picked Chief Willie Obiano, the APC is now said to be generally inclined towards former governor of the state, Senator Chris Ngige in the primaries scheduled for September 2.

Other political parties that have picked their candidates include PPA, which picked Mrs. Ngozi Ulasi and KOWA Party which picked Chief Denis Oguguo. The Labour Party, LP, will pick Mr. Ifeanyi Ubah today during its primaries.

Permutations have already started regarding what would be the outcome of the election in view of the places the candidates come from. Obiano and Nwoye are both from the Omambala section of Anambra North and analysts believe that their choice of deputies would go a long way to determining who, between them, would win the election in November.

There were indications yesterday that APGA may pick Obiano’s deputy from Anambra South, while PDP is likely to pick a deputy from Anambra Central. Surprisingly, none of those who participated in the primaries is being considered for deputy by the two political parties.

If Ngige, who is from Anambra Central, picks his running mate from Anambra North, the battle line would have been drawn.
