Shun violence, lawmaker tasks students

A lawmaker representing Epe Constituency II at the Lagos State House of Assembly (LAHA), Hon. Segun  Olulade has charged Nigerian students to shun cultism, violence and other related social vices.

Speaking at a programme tagged; Rebranding Lagos State University Campaign, organised by 2012 Miss LASU, Ajoke Badmus, Olulade admonished the students that their primary objective in the university is to study and not to engage in violent actions, capable of destroying their future.

Worried by the incessant maiming and killings occasioned by cult activities in tertiary institutions, the Chairman, Committee on Information, Strategy and Security, LAHA said; “It’s important to draw your attention that you are here to study; when you do well in your academics, allowing the school pass through you, even as you pass through it, you will end up being the greatest LASUITES that we can all be proud of. This, I believe God will assist us achieve. I want to tell you that engaging in cultism and other related social vices will only lead to your sudden death and destruction, but when you shun it, you work towards your greatness.”

Less than three hours after the conduct of its post-utme screening exercise, the authorities of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, have released the results of the exercise.

The Public Relations Officer of the university, Abiodun Olarewaju, in a release stated that “out of 12,200 candidates who participated in the screening exercise, 44 of them scored 300 marks and above while 5,691 candidates scored 200 marks and above. The whole screening exercise was based on 400 marks.”

He said that the “three candidates whose performances were exceptionally outstanding, are: Durotoluwa Olumide Olanrewaju who applied to study Chemical Engineering, topped the list with 332   while Soile Olufunso Adetola, who applied to study Medicine, came second with 327. However, two candidates – Odimayo Taiye Moses and Nafiu Olaniyi Oluwadamilare, who both applied to study Electrical and Electronics Engineering, scored 323 each.”

Commending the intellectual soundness of those that participated in the screening exercise, the Vice- Chancellor, Professor Bamitale Omole, applauded the academic excellence of those who scored  200 and above, particularly the 44 candidates who scored 300 and above, and most especially the best three  candidates.

The release advised candidates who took part in the post-UTME exercise to check their results on the OAU website or where they registered for the screening.
