Cloud has changed meaning. Oh yes! it has. Gone are the days when the mention of cloud takes you looking up to the sky. 21st century tech developments have changed things. Now when cloud is mentioned, those who run businesses look inwards. It has to do with security of data in a growing vulnerable business climate. It measures the strength of a business in aggregating its information and storing them in single platform where they can be reached at will by secured authorisation. Cloud helps to shrink files and large spendings on data storage which had seen many businesses go under. No wonder many business managers are hiding their policies in the cloud in a global market where strength of competition determines survival.
But from available statistics, this is one area where Nigeria, the giant of Africa, seems to look so small and probably insignificant. However, one of the global leaders in enabling businesses, EMC, has taken the initiative to heighten awareness and knowledge of Cloud computing among Nigerian businessmen.
First, it brings its Global world event, EMC Forum to Nigeria, billed to flag off at Eko Hotel, Lagos, July 17 2013. Second it deliberately tagged Nigeria’s edition of the show, Lead Your Transformation. This will provide a platform for several senior IT decision-makers from all industries across the country to network and share best practices and challenges in their IT transformation journeys while learning about the latest trends in the IT industry.
Vice President and Global Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at EMC, Patricia Florissi with her team are expected to deliver keynote address, that can shed more light on how Cloud transforms IT and enables the adoption of IT-as-a-service model; how organizations can unlock the potential of their data through timely insights and how security solutions are a foundation to the adoption of cloud computing and Big Data analytics.
