President Jonathan
I think we should be honest when it comes to issues like this. Because Nigerians are benefiting from an act does not make it our right. The Nigerian Government should be blamed because I know that before the UK government took such an action, they would have informed the Nigerian Government on this issue.
Honestly, you are invited to see a friend who lives in a big house and you promise to stay for only three days. After the three days, you disappeared without your host’s knowledge.
But the truth is that you didn’t leave his house. You remained in the house and ate your host’s food without his notice. He thinks you have left his house, but you are there dodging and causing him more problems.
What I am illustrating here is that Nigerians have taken advantage of the goodwill of the foreign countries, and these countries, especially the UK, spend a lot of money tracking down illegal immigrants, paying more on security personnel that do the tracking down. They also go further to pay more on healthcare. Nigerians are known to respect money more than everything.
So, if the British Government is aware of this and decides to use it against us; then we shouldn’t blame them. Let our yes be yes and our no be no. When we say that we are traveling to United Kingdom for a period of time; we should endeavour to be honest enough to return at the stipulated time. There will be other times to travel again.
