The Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF) announces a call for entries.  AFRIFF’s founder, Chioma Ude, said in Lagos recently that submission of films into the third edition of  the film festival holding between the 10th and 17th of November 2013, had begun.

She said that entries could now be submitted and would be accepted up until the 30th of July, 2013,  stating that as usual there would be four categories of films accepted into the competition. These are Features, Documentaries, Animation and Shorts.

Ude also confirmed that details and application forms were available for download on the AFRIFF website.  According to her, exciting changes had been made to the festival’s award structure.

“This year and henceforth,” she said, “the awards for excellence in the four film categories at AFRIFF have been increased from five to eleven. These now are Best Feature Film, Best Screenplay, Best Director, Best Actor and Best Actress, all under the Feature film category while the Documentary film  and Animation film  categories will offer awards for Best Documentary and Best Animation respectively.

The Short film category on the other hand now offers two awards, Best Short and Best Student Short. The latter is a new award created as an incentive to students and young filmmakers aimed at recognizing and encouraging their creative expressions.

“A new eclectic award called the Special Jury award has also been instituted and will be given to the producers, in the opinion of the jury, of the most outstanding film, cutting across all the categories of  movies submitted. Last is the Audience Choice Award, which will be given to the producer of the movie, voted as most liked, at the screenings by viewing participants at the festival. Monetary prizes for best films in the competition will range between $2,000 – $6,000.”
